Setting: A 1:1 mentorship with Anna Kendall

Flowers: La Belle epoque tulips, caramel sweet peas, brown lisianthus lavender clematis, lilacs, and fritillaries

When I think of art that captures both the refinement and strength of femininity, I think of Greek statues. Resolute and grounded in their stone forms, but still conveying graceful movement and soft lines. This type of art, though ancient, still connects with our deep femininity, and everything that means – the power, the sensitivity, the joy, the patience, the nurturing.

I believe the art of floral design captures these nuances in its own way.  Floristry is our homage to Mother Earth, accepting her abundant gifts and returning them to her in a new form. Just like statues of Greek women shaped from stone, I aim to create work that displays every facet of femininity. The force of nature that only appears to be hidden under delicate petals and trembling branches.

I went into my 1-1 mentorship with Anna with this mindset. That is why we decided to use Grecian statues as our inspiration for the styled shoot included with her workshop. Anna requested a palette with a soft and golden hue. I decided on a warm base of caramel juxtaposed with cool-toned lavender.

We choose seasonal spring blooms such as la belle epoque tulip, caramel sweet pea, brown lisianthus lavender clematis, lilac, and wispy fritillaria. With such an ethereal palette, I styled our model Lauren in a simple, neutral off-the-shoulder Grecian silhouette against a hand-painted backdrop.

This simple styling allowed us to focus on interesting form, without the need for loud colors or a dynamic set. Because there is interest in softness, when you create room to notice it.
